Japanese design cartoon figures or manga characters have made their way into the hearts of millions of cartoon enthusiasts from all over the world. If you are like me you are also a fan of manga style. I love this style of drawing a lot... and let me tell you something, you'll have a much more fun by drawing wonderful manga styled characters than what you can have by looking at the art designed by others.

Now, in spite of what lots of people might believe, drawing manga is fairly simple. Doesn't matter if you're a professional artist or are just starting out it is easy to pick up manga drawing skills with some honest effort and of course somewhere to learn how to draw manga, so going through some manga tutorials.

There are a few typical characteristics in a manga character's body and face. Once you are aware of these you'll be able to draw beautiful manga and amaze your friends and family.

In manga styled characters several body parts are exaggerated and some parts are represented by making use of very basic hint-lines. Such as, eyes are drawn larger and expressive but for the nose and mouth small lines are used.Female's eyes are larger than male's eyes, and also a vast majority of evil characters are drawn with very small eyes. As well as the body is normally drawn taller than normal. Limbs are generally thin and long.

When drawing hair you have quite a few options --you can draw lots of individual lines to symbolize hair, or you may use volume hair as though hairs formed a number of thick tubular structures. Both the styles are popular, work with which one suits your temperament along with your character's personality.

A precaution: when drawing the head start with an oval shape and draw the eyes on the midway point from the top. Because, if you ever draw the eyes above that line you run a risk of ending up with a character with a flat looking scalp.When drawing exaggerated eyes be sure that the eyes don't cross over the cheekbone this is a mistake newbies frequently make.

If you are interested in learning how to draw manga, and want to get started as quickly as possible then I suggest you stat by going through some manga tutorials which can help you learn how to draw manga much, much easier. You can find manga hair tutorials, manga eye tutorials, manga body tutorial and so many more manga tutorials to help you out with your drawing.

Now, finding those tutorials that are actually helpful and relevant can take some work, and time, if that's not what you were hoping for then I suggest you go take a look at these manga tutorials. Each are gone through, reviewed, and tell you exactly what they will teach you in a quick paragraph. Plus, all the tutorials that are linked to from there are on safe websites that will not harm your computer which is also a risk of going through every website on the internet looking for your own tutorials.

How many of us want to learn how to draw better? If you are drawing or are interested in it I can bet that most of you all want to improve your drawing skills. Have you ever asked for a critique on a drawing? Did you like what the person had to say about it? Maybe they started off by saying

"Your anatomy is all wrong, your proportions don't look like what your trying to draw and you should learn how to shade!" Ouch. Ever hear a comment like this for something you drew? I have, and it stings at first blush. "Oh my gosh how could they say something like that!" you think?

The answers simple, it's because these are the people who are going to tell you what's wrong with it, you asked, how it looked or what you could do to improve, and maybe if you didn't you just caught someone to critique. In any case, if what they say is true it's true. Instead of going along with our automatic reaction of just saying how mean the person is, try taking the advice and studying the things they said were wrong and try again. No one ever got better if they didn't realize something as wrong with it in the first place. It's nice to get positive comments, we all like them but sometimes the comments you need are the ones you don't really want to hear.

Basic structure.
If you don't know the basic structure of something it makes it next to impossible to draw and have it look accurate. So many of us are into comics, manga, cartooning but how many of us can actually draw a person, just a regular person, how many of us know the muscles in the body, the bone structures.. well enough to draw? Not many of us, and it's not something you normally think about.. your drawing the outside why should you need to know what's inside? Well honestly, if you know the bones in the body and how the sit it's a lot easier to draw a person, manga, comic, or cartoon that has correct proportion and anatomy. What if the reason the torso of all your characters look bad because you don't know how the rib cage looks in the body?

We all see hundreds of people every single day in our lives, you would think we know what a person looks like right? Not really. The same is true of a buildings, we pass hundreds everyday, we walk around them, in them but how well can we draw one? Well, most of us would start with a rectangle, add some boxes for windows... and when we are done, the truth of the matter is it looks pretty stupid. Why? not because we can't draw, not because you don't have talent but more because you don't actually KNOW what a building looks like, you draw what you think it looks like, not what it does. We can pass by something hundreds of times a day and still not know what it looks like well enough to draw a decent picture of it. The best thing you can do is to study what it looks like. Break it down, learn the parts and pieces that make it up, learn the basic structures and once you can get the general idea of that down things will become much easier. You may still need reference, every artist needs reference from time to time, even the best. We can't always remember all of it! However if you know the basics everything will become a lot easier.

While I've never read comic books much in my life drawing comics is still a subject that interests me, maybe it's because it's a popular subject in today's world.. comics. However, what really pulls me into the drawing comics is the style it has. Comic art has a unique look, and approach to it that I like. I like the details, I like colors, I like the poses, the costumes and the dramatic look a comic always has.

I like the motion, though motion is not something I can draw very well, over the past few months I have been studying myself, drawing comics, everything from the individual characters to the layout of the pages, to the writing of the scripts. I have to say that it's something that has caught my interest but that's no surprise to most of my family and friends, since drawing comics is something that my father does. While on vacation in IL at a Borders I picked up a book called How to Draw Super-Powered Heroes by Ben Dunn. I've recently been reading and going through this book, but not at a very fast pace, I'd say that it's not a good "first book" if you've never drawn super heroes before and are looking for basics.. I'd call it more of an after basics book to tell the truth. Though the book does have a lot of helpful information and you can see the drawing being drawn through a several step process several times throughout the book.

The book talks about things from the planes of the human body for both male and female figures to perspective when drawing, to drawing metallic costumes, to the difference between drawing light and dark tights.

If you know a little bit about drawing comics already then this book might work great for you, if not I suggest that you actually wait up and purchase a different book or look for help online first.. feel free to browse this blog as I am adding a lot more comic drawing help onto it nearly daily. Later on I shall talk about another comic drawing book I've referenced lately.. that I would recommend for people who are just starting out drawing this kind of thing.. like myself! ;)

While I was on vacation in IL I ended up stopping at a Border's store, I found lots of books I liked, lots I wanted to read and even started some in the store. While I didn't spend as much time there as I would have liked and I didn't buy all the books on my list I did purchase a book on drawing manga fashion called Shojo Fashion Manga Art School: How to Draw Cool Looks and Characters. While I love to design clothes I've never really been sure how to start or how to draw them, I was hoping this book would help me and let me tell you I am thoroughly enjoying it!

I found this awesome online book about how to draw comic book heroes and villains. It's on a safe website for you to read online, but I can't guaranty the safety of downloading it. So do so at your own risk or just read it online like I did! I have been interested myself in learning how to draw comic art lately.. so this sparked when I saw it.

Drawing comics, super heroes and villains, usually appeals to any artist at some point, however.. may of the don't stick with it, or it just drops out of their interest... so whether this is just a hobby for you or something you want to peruse in a career.. Love Comics? Draw A Comic Styled Male Head

Comics are fun and one of the most loved art styles of all. Comics are popular among people of all ages but especially teens and young adults. Super man, Spider man, Iron man, and many more well known names in comics have filled the hearts of many people.

This style is usually very well known, however... that doesn't make it any easier to draw then other styles! It still takes hard work, practice and research. If this is a style that interests you, which is probably why your at this page then stick around as I will be posting more videos to help you out with comic drawing! Art Erasers: Art Gum Eraser, Pink Eraser, White Eraser, Puddy Eraser? Choosing The Best Erasers For You!

A necessary drawing tool that we all use is an eraser, for fixing mistakes, removing unwanted guidelines or left over sketch marks... in anyway that we use it we all still need the same thing, a good eraser that works for us.

Some erasers will leave colored marks, some will smear pencil instead of erasing it and others just wont work all together. Keep reading on to learn about the different erasers and their pros and cons as I've learned them.

Pencil Eraser
Pencil erasers are the most commonly used erasers and the worst erasers to use as well. How can that be? Well, being on the back of the pencil it's not only convenient but also becomes habit. The erasers on the back of pencils will often times smudge the pencil instead of erasing it and make it impossible to be fully erased even by a good eraser. A lot of pencils have colorful erasers on the end of them, green, red, pink and purple are all common colors... these are fun right? Yes it is true they are fun but it is also true that they are impractical can can ruin your drawing. When erasing with these unless you've found a very good brand they will leave leftover residue from erasing... often the colorful kind... yes, you guessed right, once this is done it cannot be erased by anything else it's already stained the paper.

Common Pink Erasers VS White Erasers
Common pink eraser are a major step up from the end of the pencil eraser most of us use and are the second most common used choice. While these erasers are better they still are not great. Pink erasers still risk smudging, smearing, coloring and damaging the paper in these and other ways... especially if you end up buying a cheap pink eraser.

White erasers are better then pink erasers but sill can smudge even with mid quality. Smudging and staining can still occur with these erasers but at least the risk of coloring is gone. White erasers are the second most recommended erasers for artistic use today... the first being puddy erasers which I will speak of next. White erasers are something I've used for years and always served me well and to this day I would go back to them although I do not prefer them anymore because of the occasional smudging and staining that can still happen.

And so the previous leads us to puddy erasers, puddy erasers are nice, I really do like them although being in a small town myself right now I have found them hard to find so I am guessing this is a draw back to people in small towns without art stores as I don't believe Wal-Mart or Target carries them. However even if your still in a small town they are easily found online in places like amazon and online art stores. Puddy erasers are fun because you can shape then and size then to the form you need which leads to more accurate erasing. ;) Another thing I never liked about these is the fact you had to knead them... while it's fun as a larger person if you are buying for a younger one this can be difficult. I remember getting very frustrated with these puddy erasers because they took so much hand strength to use and and form... it was very difficult. Kneading the puddy eraser together wraps and traps the left over lead on the eraser making them last for longer then some erasers... and this is a great aspect to these. When a puddy eraser is too used, to full it will start to smudge as with any eraser so far.

Moving on to Art Gum erasers, this is my favorite kind of eraser to use nowadays. I find then perfect for the majority of my erasing needs. An Art Gum Eraser doesn't smudge nearly as much as other erasers... I have never seen them stain even after smudging... and they can erase deeper and darker pencil lines then other normal erasers. I love mine because of these qualities. However if it has it's draw backs that include things such as the art gum eraser has about twice as much eraser shavings as other erasers resulting in them needing to be replaced more often... (mine still last me a year or longer.) Along with more pencil shavings you have to make sure you gently brush the shavings off your paper, blow them off or brush them off but since it is such a good eraser the shavings will erase just as easily as the eraser it's self.

Here's What I Recommend
My personal preference is to have an Art Gum eraser for major erasing, and a puddy eraser for smaller portions... I also always keep a back up, and basic white eraser handy. I find this to be the best combination that I've found but that is considered and chosen for my drawing style and how often I need to erase and what I need to erase meaning that this is different for everyone, so find a combination that's works for you and enjoy!

What is reference?

Drawing fan art is one of the hardest and most critiqued forms of art out there. To truly do this right you have to draw the character with the same flare the artist gave it without being a completely copy-cat. Knowing how to draw Sonic is cool, and takes a lot of work. Kids cartoon characters always have a cheery appearance, they may not always all be smiling but they all should have a light, child like feel to them. They should never be scary.
Kids cartoons are always basic. They don't consist of a lot of lines, they are not complicated in shape, or detail.
Kids cartoon characters should have only a few colors. Kids don't need a lot of things to look at, too many colors become hard to look especially for young children. Stick to a few colors per character, and stick to basic colors, use red not maroon.
